    Arrivals and departures in O-Town

Now arriving: Heard from two folks -- but haven't confirmed myself -- that WESH has hired Miami anchor Martha Sugalski to anchor its new 4 p.m. newscast. Suglaski, now at NBC O&O WTVJ, co-anchors the 10 p.m. news the station produces for WBZL-WB 39 in South Florida. She has been with WTVJ since 1996 when she started as a general assignment reporter.

Now departing: Dan Hellie signed off as sports team leader at WFTV on Sunday night. He's headed to NBC O&O WRC in his hometown of Washington. Zack Klein has moved up to sports team leader -- and Jenny Dunn from WLOS replaces Klein as weekend sports anchor.

If you never thought of Central Florida as being "progressive," consider this: Dunn's arrival will mean 25 percent of all O-Town sports anchors will be women -- the national average is about 8 percent. More on that in Friday's Orlando Sentinel sports section.
    Comments:
    Martha...what a name...is replacing Jim Payne?!?!?!

    From Sentinel:
Veteran Orlando newscaster Jim Payne will be replaced on WESH-Channel 2's 11 p.m. newscast as the station seeks to broaden its appeal to viewers.

For the first time in at least nine years, the station will go with two female anchors in the 11 pm slot. Wendy Chioji will be joined by newcomer Martha Sugalski, who is coming from an NBC affiliate in South Florida.

"We thought teaming her with Wendy would give us a different look at 11 o'clock,'' Bill Bauman, general manager of WESH, said today. "It's more about Martha than it is about Jim.''

Payne will anchor a new 4 p.m. newscast with Sugalski and WESH's 6 p.m. newscast with Chioji.

What happened to Dain Weister from WFTV Ch 9? Notice he hasn't been on the last few weeks and his bio is off the site.

I saw this and thought I would respond. Dain Weister... that's me... decided on a career change and is now the Public Information Officer (spokesman) for the Orange County Health Department. Thanks for asking!

wftv made a big mistake when they let so many of thier best and most experienced reporters be lured away. people like dain weister, josh wilson etc keep viewers tuning in. all these new, unexperienced reporters can't fill their shoes. i for 1 am changing the channel.

What happened to Leland Vitterd. Noticed he hasn't been on Chanel 9 last few weeks.
