Time to smell the money with Ping

New WKMG sports anchor David Pingalore gets a profile in today's Sentinel. We find out that GM Henry Maldonado likes Ping for his zany interaction at the anchor desk. "It brings the ensemble cast together," Maldonado told the Sentinel. (If you wonder about the state of TV news, just read that sentence again. )

So far I'm mixed on "Ping." He does bring a lot of energy to his reports (I'm not calling them sports reports), but I find one of his segments, where he insists on folks smelling a $100 bill, a bit obscene. "Here, smell it ... Smell it again ... Give it another whiff," he urges. Reminds me of that Spinal Tap album, perhaps.

What do you think of Ping? Leave comments below.

I can't watch Ping - too annoying and obnoxious.

Idiot... We've seen this schtick before. In fact, Marc Middleton invented this crap

6 seems to have a history of these types of gimmicks...remember Rod Luck or Mike Storm's Sports Closet?

Ensemble cast!?! *sigh* It's a newscast, not a sitcom, you twit.

Ping is more than I can stand. He recently intoduced himself (on air) to Jay Gruden at Bucs Training Camp and Jay said "Ping, what's a Ping"? and proceeded to drive off in his limo.

    Ditto!

    Ping is unwatchable!

Tampa had a clown like this for a while with Drew Soicher. You can't do "sports for people who hate sports". No one who likes sports will watch this clown, and the people who don't like sports still won't. Find a professional who understands that LOCAL is what matters, and let them do the job. Find intersting Orlando area stories and own the UCF, Magic, Gators and Bucs beats - period. Yankee highlights - no. Smelling hundred dollar bills - HELL NO.

It's actually quite funny to read these posts! For the people who don't like this guy.... you sure know a lot what he does! So why watch him. Here's to you Ping
Smell The Money as you would say.
Wow--- look at all those comments
about that guy at 9 and 2. I think Ping is funny and cute. Keep it up

Not someone I would ever tune into again.

I can't stand him either, I really can't, do you see how he treats Jacqueline? Like he totally ignores her when he's so called "reporting" his sport segment. It's always "Tom" and "Bob" hello? She knows about sports too, just because she's a woman does not mean she doesn't know. Or who knows what his deal is...pathetic.

GET RID OF HIM! GO BACK TO WHEREVER YOU CAME FROM! You're loosing viewers with that dude, he's not too pleasing to the eye either. Ick!

Total moron. I mean, I work in sports in another market, and saw him on TV when I visited. His antics give actual hard-working reporters like me a bad name. This seriously makes me want to do something else with my life.

I love Ping.. he's hilarious! I don't even like sports and I'd tune in to see a Ping-sportscast any day!! If you just want highlights go watch espn...

Come on Down! It's the new game show on WKMG that has replaced the sports report. Now there's an ensemble with a sour note! Where did Henry get this guy? Is he a relative who needed a job? When he moved in, I moved over--to 2 or 9.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who can't stand watching Ping. I've never really felt this way over any newscaster or sportscaster, but I've totally stopped watching Channel 6 news. Ping is annoying!
